Raking

Those amazing Unumans are coming over tomorrow to rake the yard. A not un-daunting task. Ken is coming home for a visit. It should be fun. He will look down from his Evita perch (I was going to do Juliet, but Evita just felt more right somehow) and sing of injustice and raking.

He's been doing really well. Walking with assistance (a 4 footed cane and an OT or PT). Moving his leg, arm, and squeezing fingers. I've been catching up, occasionally, on Dog Whisperer. Which has been giving me some great parenting tips. Stay calm, give affection, maintain dominance, and exercise them frequently.

Thanksgiving is coming, we we're gearing up for that. Then the skull replacement after that. It's going to be busy couple of weeks.

Thanks for the visits. He really looks forward to them.

  1. Wow, Jamie, it sounds like things are really great! And exhausting. But mostly great . . . (for those of you keeping track, I'm well aware those are not complete sentences, and that I'm a teacher & I should know better--I did them that way on purpose, for emphasis. :) )

I love the parenting advice; I'm taking it straight into my classroom!

What can we do to help you, Jamie?

  2. Sounds like a great Fall day. I wish you sunshine and French Toast.

Ken, you must really be keeping up the effort. It sounds like you are making strides (ha ha). Great work!

  3. FROM JAMIE'S SISTER. STOP. SHE NEEDS HELP. STOP. SHE WILL NOT ASK. STOP. SO I ASK FOR HER. STOP....

STOP AND PLEASE READ. Yesterday I posted a craigslist ad for Jamie asking for a wheelchair ramp and grab rails. A sad and heavy moment. But, as with all things in this journey, necessary.

So, I thought I'd put out some requests for help (at the risk she will kill me), because I know, in the madswirl she is in, she cannot or will not ask.

I also thought, by putting our heads together, we might come up with some creative solutions... and too, become part of their journey in ways we'd never imagined... the silver-lining.

    The LIST:
House cleaning 1x per week, or 2x per month
Wheelchair ramp (in garage and removable)
    Hand rails (for stairway)
Yard work (though Unum is all over the leaves this weekend--THANK YOU!!!)
Babysitting (just someone/s she can call if the need arises)
Weekend kid dates (taking the kids for a half-day)
Girl outtings (for Jamie--once in a while)
THERAPIES: whoever can massage, work with stones, raiki (sp?), acupuncture... who do we know who can lend their time and professional hands to Ken?

Okay, that's the bucket. Here's hoping for the ripple effect.

    Jen
